Gabbeh

Gabbeh is kind of a carpet that is usually woven in small size by Lor and Qashqai nomads.

Gabbeh has long villi and more weaves are used in its texture, which has a significant effect on Gabbeh's softness. The number of wefts of some gabbehs sometimes reaches from three to eight wefts in each ridge and the height of the villi sometimes up to one centimeter.

Gabbeh weighs an average of 3 kg per square meter.

In the past , Gabbehs were woven simply and without patterns. Weavers were often inspired by the environment and nature, and applied their mental designs to the gabbehs. Because the weaver produced it for his personal needs and consumption, he used his mental ideas in its weaving and sometimes displayed his wishes on it.

Gabbeh is an original handicraft and the patterns used in its texture distinguish it from other handicrafts.

The most important Gabbeh designs are as follows:

Lion design:
The most important pattern woven among the nomads is the lion pattern, which has been the only common pattern among the weavers of different regions.
